Cape Fear Kite Festival has new location

Cape Fear Kite Festival has new location
August 12, 2016 admin

Weather permitting, the annual Cape Fear Kite Festival will be held this weekend at a new location.

Held at Wrightsville Beach in previous years, the festival, which is in its 10th year, is moving this year to the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. Flags of all shapes, styles and colors will be filling the skies above the beach from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Kite fliers will be launching fish and other sea creatures into the air, including a 100-foot blue whale, to go with the marine theme of the festival.

The event is free and open to the public. There will be food trucks and other vendors offering food for purchase. Free parking is available at the recreation area as well as at the nearby North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, which is the festival’s community partner this year. Festival attendees will receive $1 off general admission to the aquarium this weekend.

Visitors should also be aware that Fort Fisher Boulevard is currently being repaved in Kure Beach, so traffic delays and backups can be expected.
